Frequently Asked Questions
What is the status of our contract?
The contract between the Issaquah School District and the SEIU Local 925 Paraprofessionals expired on September 1, 2024. Your bargaining team met with District representatives from April to June last year in the hopes of coming to a tentative agreement on a new contract. The parties were not able to finish bargaining before the summer break, and we are currently negotiating new meeting dates. Since our contract has expired, we are continuing to work under the terms of the expired contract.
How many personal days do I get?
Section 9.10 Personal Leave.
You get 3 Personal days front loaded at the beginning of each school year. You can accumulate up to 56 hours of Personal Leave. BUT remember that you cannot keep anything over 56 hours. So if you are already at that limit you will not accrue more Personal Days. So check your hours. How do you do that?
Skyward – Home – Employee Access – Time Off (on strip on left side) – My Status – Personal. Look under remaining and make sure it is not over 56 hours.
For Example:- A Para works 6 hrs a day (average). 6 x 3 Personal days = 18 hours. You cannot go over 56 hours of accumulated time, so you could lose those days if you are already at 56 hours. If you want to make sure you get the full three days, then at the end of the school year you should have no more than 38 hours of accumulated time. 56 – 18 = 38. Personal days are calculated on your daily average so it will be different for every Para.
How many sick days do I get?
Section 9.1.1 Illness and Injury Leave; Accrual
You get the 12 days of illness and injury leave front loaded at the beginning of the School Year that covers your immediate family members as well as yourself. You can use a sick day to accompany your spouse to an appointment or take your child to the doctor. Reminder… If you go over 3 consecutive days you may be asked to produce a doctor’s letter.
Did you also know, that whatever days you do not use out of the twelve, rolls over to the next year and accumulates year after year. There do have to be special circumstances in order to use more than 12 days in a school year but when the unthinkable happens it is very useful to have those extra hours in the bank so to speak.
